I read an AP story this morning in which lawmakers on both sides of the isle suspect oil companies are taking advantage of the desperate situation hurricane Katrina has wrought on Louisana by price gouging the entire country. They contend the price increases at the gas pump are artificially inflated but they lament that Congress has neither the authority to investigate or prosecute the shameless offenders. I suspect most lawmakers really like the free rides they get on oil companies' private jets and are loathe to offend big oil and the Bush administration. Has anybody noticed that the price of deisel fuel has inflated at a slower rate than regular unleaded gasoline? How is this explained when both varieties come from the same organic source, are sold to the same oil companies and refined by the same facilities? What do you think?
