Besides sharing
an ice cream cone, agility training and competition might be the most
fun you can have with your Dalmatian. This breed’s inherent athletic
superiority makes the Dalmatian a natural on the agility course.
Visit an AKC agility
(http://www.akc.org/events/agility/index.cfm)
trial and you’ll see kids under the age of 10 as well as seniors
over 70 running or walking the agility course with their happy canine
companion skittering through tunnels, bounding over jumps and weaving
through upright poles. It’s an AKC sanctioned activity for the whole
family and one in which the highly intelligent, athletic and flashy Dalmatian
is especially exciting to watch.
The Tandava Dalmatians
and handlers are just getting started in their agility training—and
learning. Each dog and handler must first complete a basic obedience course
before learning to negotiate the agility equipment, one piece at a time.
Check back with us frequently to see how our training is progressing.
We’ll post photos and video clips so you can see how it should be
done and sometimes how it shouldn’t be done. If you have comments
or suggestions, post it on our blog.
